HARVEST

The harvest at El Bierzo begins mid-September and continues until the end of October.

It is the final point of conscientious observation and the synthesis of contstant work in the vineyard throughout the year.
At the beginning of the year we carry out the pruning and different ploughing activities.

During May we commence the pruning which eliminates the surplus vegetation and further clearing is done in July.

At this stage, we reduce the bunches in each vine in order to maintain our grapes healthy and with the  required quality.

The selection of the vineyards or plots which are to be harvested depends on the full phenolic maturity of each bunch.  Also, the type of soil; the location of the vineyard; the age of the vines and variety, all make up the factors we bear in mind when commencing the harvest.

Harvesting takes place in phases depending on the degree of grape maturity.  Our team carries out daily observation of the vines and decides the most adequate moment for collection.

At this time, everything is ready at the winery. The bunches are classified at the vineyard and transported in 15 kilo cases to avoid crushing and breakage.  Once at the winery, they are further selected by experts bunch by bunch before vinification in deposits.
