TECTONIC

The region of El Bierzo has suffered a deep tectonic action lost in the formation origin of the Earth.
It can be described in three phases:

First Phase
Original deformations with direction Northwest-Southeast forming asymmetrical anticlinals in the North and a flow of Schistosity parallel to the axial plane of the anticlinals.

Second Phase
Chronologically and simultaneously to the previous phase, great thrusts are produced due to shifting of materials from South to North with more anticlinals and Schistosity.

Third Phase
All the above-mentioned structures will be affected and new inverse and longitudinal faults appear. These allow new thrusts and, in a correlative way, an immersion process of Bierzo begins.  All this happening during the successive periods of the Primary Era.

Later on, geological actions produce different behaviours and results that modify the surface of El Bierzo.
