Regulations of The Denomination of Origin “El Bierzo” and
the Boards’s regulations
By Order 29128 dated 11th November 1989, the Regulations
of the Denomination of Origin “El Bierzo” are approved.
Order from the Ministry of Food, Fishing and Agriculture, dated
3rd June 1988, provisionally recognizes the Denomination of Origin
for wines obtained in this region (province of Leon), and in accordance
with what is prescribed therein, the Board of Denomination of Origin
is provisionally established as resolution from the Head Office
of Food Policy Department dated 3rd October 2005.
The project of the regulations has been set up by the Board of
Denomination of Origin, in collaboration with the Assisting Head
Office of the National Institute of Denominations of Origin. The
general terms contained in Clause III of law 25/1970 (2nd December)
and the rest of the applicable regulations, have been addapted
to the particular conditions of production of the wines from the
region. One of the main rules refers to the EEC Legislation (823/1987)
of the Board, by which specific rules are established as to the
quality of the wines produced in regions within the VCPRD classification. Wines
of Denomination of Origin are included in this category.
In view of the reports released by the General Technical Secretary’s
Office of the Ministries of Economy, Housing, Food, Fishing and
Agriculture, and applying the faculties conferred by the present
legislation, the following is disposed:
I. The Denomination of Origin “El Bierzo” is recognized
for wines complying in production, elaboration and marketing
to what is disposed in the Rules and Regulations of the said
Denomination and according to the present legislation.
II. The Rules and Regulations of the
Denomination of Origin “El
Bierzo” and its Board are approved. The corresponding
text is attached to the present Order.
